Leaves, needles, branches and clippings piling up on the lawn and in the beds. We clear it out, load it up, haul it away and leave the place tidy.
Autumn on the Sunshine Coast is not a light job. Big leaf maples drop an enormous volume of leaf in a short window, firs and cedars shed needles all year, and the first real southeaster of the season puts small branches over everything. Left alone through a wet winter, that layer mats down, kills the grass under it and blocks the drains.
This is the job people most often try to do themselves and then give up on, usually because of the volume. A single mature maple can fill a truck. On the Coast the green waste also has to go somewhere, and hauling it is most of the work.
We clear the lot properly rather than just the lawn. Leaves come out of beds, off gravel, out from behind shrubs, off flat roofs and out of gutters where they are causing an overflow. Everything is loaded and taken away in the same visit.
How big is it, how many big deciduous trees, and how long has it been since it was last cleared. That tells us how many crew and how many loads.
We check what is under the leaf layer, whether the gutters are backed up, and whether anything blew down that needs a saw.
One price for the visit, with the hauling and the disposal in it. Not a rate per bag.
Lawns, beds, gravel and hard surfaces all get cleared, everything is loaded, and the property is blown down before we leave.
Cleanups are priced by volume and by how long the property has been left. The number of loads leaving in the truck is what drives the cost more than the size of the lot.
Two visits through the autumn almost always cost less than one big clearance in December. Leaf that has sat and matted through November rain is heavy, wet and slow to move, and it has to be raked out of the grass rather than blown off it.
If you are already on a regular garden round with us, autumn clearing is usually folded into the visits at that time of year rather than charged as a separate job. We price a one off cleanup in writing before starting, at no charge.
Every community on the Sunshine Coast has its own ground, its own weather and its own trees. Here is how this work usually looks in the three places we are called out to most.
Gibsons yards are small but the trees around them are not, so the leaf volume per square metre is high. The bigger issue in Gibsons is drainage. On the terraced lots above the harbour, wet leaf washes downhill and packs into catch basins and the bottom of stairwells, and that is where the water problems start. We clear the drains as part of the visit, not as an extra.
Roberts Creek is the heaviest leaf work on the Coast. Properties are large, treed on every side, and a lot of them have gravel drives and paths where leaf cannot simply be blown off. Needle drop from fir and cedar carries on all year here, which is why a lot of Roberts Creek customers book an autumn clearance and a second one in late winter.
Sechelt has more ornamental and street planting and less native forest cover, so the drop is lighter and it comes in a shorter, sharper window. What Sechelt gets more of is wind debris off the Strait, small branches and cones across the lawn after a blow. Cleanups here are quicker and more often a single visit.
We also clear leaves and yard waste in Langdale, Wilson Creek, Davis Bay, Halfmoon Bay, Secret Cove, Madeira Park, Garden Bay, Pender Harbour and Egmont.
Late October through November for most Coast properties. If you have big leaf maples, book two visits, one when about half the leaf is down and one after the last of it. Waiting for every leaf to fall means the first half has already matted into the lawn.
Yes. Everything is loaded into our trucks and disposed of properly. You do not need bins, bags or a trip to the transfer station.
Yes, on a single storey roof we clear gutters and downpipe outlets as part of a cleanup. It is the same leaf causing the same problem, and it makes no sense to do one and not the other.
Yes, and we do it regularly. An overgrown property is usually a two stage job. First a heavy clearance to see what is actually there, then a tidy up once the ground is visible.
Yes. After a windstorm we clear branches, blown down debris and small trees off lawns, driveways and roofs. Anything larger becomes a tree removal, and the same crew handles it.
Most people start with one job. Once we are on the property, it is usually easier to have one crew handle the rest of it too.
Tell us what you need done. We will come out, take a look at it and give you a price in writing. There is no charge for that.
